7 Wonders of Green Technology

The vast majority of us have been exposed to the 7 wonders of the world. They are Giza Pyramid Complex, Chichen Itza, Christ the Redeemer, Colosseum, Great Wall of China, The Taj Mahal, Machi Pichu, and Petra. However, have you heard about the 7 Wonders of Green Technology? Listed below are the 7 amazing wonders of green technology:

Lilypad Project

This is an imaginary idea of green technology. This particular project is designed to produce a floating self-sufficient ocean of eco-city group of islands. It can sustain a substantial amount of bio-diversity and accommodate 50,000 inhabitants. It will have collecting pools around the middle that will filter water to be utilized on board.

The MagLev Wind Turbine

This is the green technology wonder making it a possibility to take a step into the world of wind power. This utilizes magnetism to increase the friction of the blades. The actual friction will then be removed and much more power is made without the need of using any more power. This particular wonder could endure for hundreds of years and power up to around 750,000 houses in the near future.

The Bahrain World Trade Centre

This is made up of 3 big wind turbines set in between 2 towers which make up the main building. The 80-foot turbine creates a bridge in between the towers as well as the shape channels. This speeds up the air movements so it helps in producing a great deal of power.

The Solar Tower

This operates with the power of the sun. The particular rays of the sun are aimed towards particular spots of the tower and transforms water directly into steam. This particular steam then goes into the turbines and produces energy.

Urban skyscraper

The idea of the Urban skyscraper farming would be to grow food locally. This is made to incorporate the high amounts of rainwater to enhance productivity and reduce the environmental effect.

Dongtan Eco-City

The Dongtan Eco-City is really a “socially, economically as well as culturally” maintained metropolis. This is divided up in between farming and urban areas. This eco-city depends on its very own wind, solar power as well as organic farming techniques. Furthermore, this particular environmentally friendly idea will offer public transit emission free.

The Lighthouse scraper

The Lighthouse scraper is made to utilize 50% of the water and energy of the highly elevated building. This uses solar power and wind farming methods to lessen the recovery of water and energy.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites VS 7 Wonders Of The World

UNESCO World Heritage Sites VS 7 Wonders Of The World

da6jz1ejHave you heard of how there was a campaign launched to get everyone around the globe to vote for seven new wonders of the world? It was a big deal, and of course there have been numerous wonders of the world lists. UNESCO is an organization that works to protect world heritage sites, which certainly can include wonders of the world. It's called the UNESCO World Heritage Program, and there is also a World Heritage Center. Their website offers more valuable information about the program and their mission.

UNESCO goes a lot further than just identifying these sites or wonders of the world though. They help countries preserve and protect the sites that are listed. If you thought that UNESCO is the organization that picks the seven wonders of the world for each list, well they don't. In fact, this last time when the campaign was launched to vote for the world wonders, UNESCO was offered the opportunity to help out multiple times says one source, and the organization didn't get involved.

One argument is that the people that pick the world wonders only serve to list them. UNESCO as mentioned is all about preservation. UNESCO has its own World Heritage List, and it considers its approach educational. They distance themselves from the Seven Wonders Lists that aim to be more popular with the media and pop culture. UNESCO takes a scientific approach and again, they aim to assist in the preservation of the world heritage sites.

Sites inscribed in 2012

The last time there was a campaign to pick the seven wonders, it was handled by phone and online. It's really odd to me seeing the sites that were picked because it seems to me that all of them have been on the lists before. Some of them are ancient ruins, which means they might have been on the original 7 Ancient Wonders of the World list. To me, stuff like this should be figured out and handpicked by organizations, not the masses.

UNESCO agrees with me, and that is why they wanted nothing to do with picking the wonders of the world that way. Did you know that UNESCO is a United Nations organization? I didn't know that, but it makes sense. They are always identifying and protecting world heritage sites across the globe, and they take their efforts very seriously.

Did you know that you can make donations to the UNESCO World Heritage organization? That is one way that you can help protect the sites around the world. With the New Wonders of the World Campaign, there was no preservation involved. It was only about picking the new wonders and hyping up the campaign to get people excited. You can imagine they were more than happy to get involved and choose world wonders from their respective countries.

Do you know how many properties are on World Heritage List? I had no idea, and so when I saw there were over 700 of them, I was a little taken aback. That's quite a few, and there are also 183 natural heritage sites. Do you think that you would recognize them all? I know I wouldn't, but I would probably recognize more than I think.

I wonder how many of the World Heritage sites are in the United States. You don't often hear many of the sites mentioned being anywhere in the US except the Grand Canyon. I'm sure there are more, but I'm just saying that the ancient world and other countries usually rule the lists. Either way, UNESCO will continue as an organization to help preserve the sites on their list, and the Wonder of the World lists will just continue to be for pop culture for the most part.

The New 7 Wonders Of World

The New 7 Wonders Of World

Most people have heard of the ancient wonders of the world, these seven locations that were amazing structures or destinations that were made millennia ago. There are actually seven wonders of the world that are considered the new wonders, faces that you should definitely see. There has been a lot of thought that has gone into choosing which ones actually fit the category of the new seven wonders of the world. Let's take a look at what these are, where they are located, and what you will see when you get there.

What Were The Original Seven Wonders Of The World?

The original 7 wonders included the largest pyramid in Giza, the mythical Hanging Gardens in what is considered to be ancient Babylon, the Statue of the greatest of all Greek gods Zeus, the Artemis Temple, the Halicarnassus mausoleum, the Colossus that is located in Rhodes, and finally the great Alexandria Lighthouse. Only one of those remains standing today and has actually been grandfathered into the modern wonders of the world. The Great Pyramid of Giza is now regarded as part of the modern seven wonders, and here are the six others that are in this distinctive category.

The Seven Modern Wonders Of The World

7-wonders-of-the-world

In addition to the Great Pyramid of Giza, there are several other modern wonders that are actually quite exceptional. There is The Colosseum in Rome, Petra in Jordan, the Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza in the Yucatán Peninsula area, the Taj Mahal, and Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

Why Are These Considered Wonders Of The World?

Part of the reason for considering these locations to be so wondrous is that it is usually a feat of unimaginable engineering. When you think about the size of the Taj Mahal, or how the ancient people of the Cuzco region were able to construct Machu Picchu which is at 8000 feet above sea level at the top of a plateau, it's hard to imagine how they were able to construct this without modern tools or even the wheel.

Which One Is Considered To Be The Best?

Although this is an area of ongoing debate, it just depends on how you look at this information. For example, the Great Pyramid at Giza has theoretically constructed 4000 years ago, using stones that weighed in excess of 300 tons. They did not have access to cranes, hydraulics, and many of the stones were brought from as far as 400 miles away. Another person may look at the Great Wall of China which extends 5000 miles, longer than the width of the United States. The Colosseum in Rome is a tribute to those that understood weights and balances and could incorporate mathematics into the structure such as Pi and Phi. Chichen Itza is the location of one of a unique pyramid in the world, El Castillo, a pyramid that is aligned with the spring and fall equinoxes. During this time, serpents can be seen through the shadows on the pyramid through time-lapse photography. The one that you believe to be the greatest must always look at its appearance, the complexity of what was created at the time that it was built, and of course how incredible these seven wonders of the world actually look when you finally get to see them. Petra in Jordan was carved out of the rock using nothing but primitive tools. The two remaining structures, the Taj Mahal and Christ the Redeemer are more modern, but still incredible representations of the ingenuity and determination that mankind can have when trying to create something that is unimaginably spectacular.

There are many tours that are given by people going to these destinations. Tours of the best way to experience these places. They can give you background information on their construction, and take you to places that may not be available to the general public, making them even more wondrous and mysterious. If you have never been to any of these, you should certainly consider traveling there at some point in time. It will make you realize just how innovative incredible human beings actually are. For those that are trying to figure out where they should go on vacation, choosing any of these modern seven wonders of the world will make your trip memorable for years to come.

What Are The Real 7 Wonders Of The World?

What Are The Real 7 Wonders Of The World?

Have you heard of the 7 Wonders of the World? You might think that is just one single list, but it's actually much more than that. Which wonders of the world do you know about? Maybe you know about the natural wonders, and there are some great ones to see for sure. There are also the buildings or structures made by man that have their own list. And, there are other lists, too. The number seven is quite popular with these lists, so the point is only that when talking about the 7 wonders of the world, you have to know which list.

Naturally, in conversation, you don't have to be so technical as to point out which list you're talking about. You can just say one of the 7 wonders of the world, but that is also why some people don't know there are actually multiple lists of them. For example, you also have to go by time periods in some respects. The ancient world has its own 7 wonders list. You've certainly heard of the Great Pyramid, and it is on that list.

It's the ancient world that the first list was about, and so it gets first dibs so to speak. Do you know what else is on the list of ancient wonders? The Temple of Artemis is one of them, located in Ephesus. The Lighthouse in Alexandria is another one, and that would certainly be cool to see. It would be cool to see any of the world's wonders in person. However, my favorite would be to see the natural wonders, the ones that God created, not man.

The world's wonders that are part of creation are the most magnificent, and you might even know most of them or some of them at least. Of course, there are natural wonders on other lists, too. For example, the Polar Ice Caps in the polar regions of the world are one of the world's wonders from a list made in the 2000's for world wonders in general by a popular media outlet. So there are all kinds of natural wonders out there that have made various lists, some of them more than others.

One of the current wonders of the world on some modern lists is far from natural but all about technology. Did you know that the Internet makes many people's lists as a wonder of the world these days? Of course, the Grand Canyon is often on the lists of natural wonders, and that is one landmark that puts the US on the map. The older Jerusalem is also considered to be a wonder, and that is certainly a place I'd like to visit.

What other natural wonders do you think would make the lists? There is The Great Barrier Reef, and Mount Everest is another one. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to summit Mount Everest? Not many people out there can say they've done that, but of course, more people have at least been to the mountain and have seen the natural wonder in one way or another.

There are even a wonders of nature list, and there are seven of them all the same. For example, on that list is Komodo Island and the Amazon Rainforest. Both of those are rather large wonders of nature for sure. Have you had the pleasure of visiting any of the world's wonders? I can say that I can't think of a single one that I've been to, and they would have to be stateside, although I have traveled quite often all over the southern US.
